New Year's Camping

We left early Wednesday morning for the beach and a week of camping, birding and photography. At the NC welcome rest area we stopped to have lunch and walk the dogs. We also let Wilbur out of the crate he travels in.  Came back from walking the dogs and no Wilbur. We looked everywhere in the RV, and discovered access planets we did not know we had. After 30 minutes of looking, we closed up and moved on. Upon arrival at the camp site we revisited everywhere we had looked before., no Wilbur. This was a real bummer and put a damping on our spirits.  Latter that evening Edna went into a cabinet to get something and guess who popped out. Day was saved!!

The weather New Years Day was 55 and sunny, so we walked to the "nature center " and then the causeway.  It was mid day tide was out and not a lot of birds.

Later walked on the beach, we hope for an empty beach, but that was not to be. We thought everybody would be watching football games. Dogs only got to run on the beach for a few minutes, maybe more in the next few days as the campground will empty out after the holiday.

An observation, campers are just a sample of our society.  Lots of friendly people and a few very, inconsiderate people that walk and ride bikes right through your campsite.
Walked 4.4 miles today as reported by the app "moves" on the I phone

Friday walked the dogs this AM and enjoyed the smell of campfires with bacon cooking, brings back memories of our backpacking trips in NY.  Weather is great for walking and is overcast I am looking forward to some photo opportunities.  Walked the Sandpiper Trail to North Beach and then back the beach to the campground. Lots of ducks on the fresh water pond, but most to far away to get a good photo of.

Short nap after lunch, then Edna wanted to walk to the causeway early evening, only a few ducks on the fresh water side as it was very overcast and almost dark. It was high tide was in on the salt marsh side.  We did meet a couple who were using very fast 300 & 400 prime lens photographing the few ducks to be seen.

Walked 6.3 miles today
Saturday up at 7 and drank coffee till 8:30, then walked dogs. Later biked to the causeway and used my 400mm lens with an 1.4 extender to photograph the great blue about 200 yards on edge of marsh.   We then walked Baxter and Gus on the beach, it was empty so they got off the leash and had a good run.

Walked only 2.9 miles today.
