Washington Island Visit

Washington Island
It is the largest of the 34 Door County islands, and a year around community of 640 population. Accessible only by water.  The ferry is the most popular method.

5 miles open water and a wonderful ride.   Did get to photograph the Plum Island Light House from the ferry. Met and talked to couple guys from Vail Colorado on the Ferry

The Stavkirke is a replica of building located in Norway.  It is a tall stave church nestled in a hidden grove of trees.  The wood workmanship is fantastic.

School House Beach.

The beach is all rock no sand and the rocks are super smooth.  Sign saying DON’T TAKE ROCKS WITH YOU a $250.00 fine.  Had a nice conservation with a group visiting from Kansas City

Lavender Farm

Visited 2 family owned farms, however the plants were pass prime.  Watched the Lavender Oil being processed.

Lavender being dried

Mountain Park Lookout Tower.
Site is a lookout tower so be prepared for a hike  184 stairs to top of mountain, once there you still have to clime the tower.

View from tower

Overall it was an enjoyable day, but not really a lot to see or do.  Would we do it again, no.  If ask should you visit the island, my answer would be, you will have a enjoyable time if you do not go with high expectations.
