Notes from the beach

May 27, arrived mid afternoon and after getting settled, then went to the Nature Center and photographed Painted Buntings at the bird feeders.  Talked to another photographer who was a retired state trooper and photographed high school football for a web site that has his pictures free for parents to download and makes its money by selling ads. He also does wildlife photography.  That evening sat on the beach and enjoyed the surf, breeze and a Bud Light Lime.

May 28, was rain off and on and later in the day, were notified by the park ranger we were under a tropical storm warning and should put our awning in and secure our chairs and bikes tonight.  Early evening there was a break in the rain so we walked out to the beach, it was deserted with strong winds.

May 29,  woke to sun and humid weather. After going to the causeways we returned and packed up as we had to move to a different site.  To stay for the week we had to make reservations for two different sites.  Latter we returned to the Nature Center to try and catch another Painted Bunting. In early evening returned to causeway and only saw one Great Blue Heron fishing. He was quite successful.  Returned to campsite started campfire, cooked hotdogs over fire and sat around fire until 10 PM. I find campfires very relaxing, a great way of practicing to lost art of conversation and to pass time doing nothing.

May 30, after walking Baxter and Gus we were off to the causeway. We have seen this Anhinga for several days.  Park Rangers believe it is styrofoam from maybe a floating dock.  They will attempt to catch when he gets weaker. As now he could get injured if they attempt to catch.

May31, did not rise early and by the time we returned from walking Baxter and Gus it was 10:00.  Walked to the causeway, however it was filled with people from 2 tour buses so we visited one of the viewing platforms for a short period. This Red Wing Black Bird landed several feet from me.

Rained most of the afternoon, early evening we cooked our London Broil and then went to the boardwalk for sunset picture and I attempted 5 photographs of the sunset to use for a panoramic I hope to make in Lightroom.  Tomorrow we head home as we have 2 graduations to attend.
