240 years on the James River

The boats that would have been a common site on the James River 240 years ago are once again on the James during the James Rive Batteau Festival. The 240 mile float from Lynchburg to Maiden's Landing in Powhatan Virginia is celebrating its 30 year.  The boats weigh more than 5,500 pounds and a correctly built boat can carry its own weight. There are 23 boats this year for the week long trip.

Toby and I spent Friday evening at the festival at Cartersville, watching the boats arrive and the associated activities.

Saturday evening I went to Maiden's to pickup my Batteau tee shirt and watch the arrival and boat take out.

Maiden's the end to a long week on the river.

The float and the takeout.
